The weather conditions were tough due to high winds and closed-in weather and the event was brought forward to early morning. The girls were up first but as the wind was getting stronger the judges decided it was to be a one-run showdown for them. Unfazed by the challenge, Katie Summerhayes pulled a spectacular switch 5 off the big kicker. “Big up Katie she’s blatantly going to win Gold at the X-Games in the next few years,” commented judge Jamie Cameron. Ty Harding The first day of competition at the British Ski and Snowboard championships has seen Giro’s skiers dominate in the halfpipe with 12 year old Ty Harding showing he is untouchable in his age group and Murray Buchan becoming the first Brit to land a 1260 earning him his age category championship. With a run so full of rotation, it’s a wonder he was able to stand, yet alone ski straight at the end of his run which got the biggest cheers of the day from the gathered crowds at the end of the pipe. Sadly for Murray it was not enough to net him the overall after a split decision from the judges, but with these two youngsters doing the business already, hopefully it will be a highly successful week for the Giro team. Today (Wednesday) sees the skiers go in the Animal Slopestyle competition with James Webb looking continue his success at this discipline, while the snowboarders start their ...
