Urban Iki received the prestigious Golden IF Award in Munich for its children's bicycle seats. Both the front seat and the rear seat were singled out for recognition. Urban Iki Managing Director Ronald Scheppink and Owner Eric Kruisselbrink were on-hand to receive the iFgold award.

Design, ease of use and attention to detail rewarded

Every year the oldest independent design organization in the world, iF International Forum Design GmbH from Hanover, organizes the iF DESIGN AWARD. Urban Iki convinced the 67-person international jury of independent experts with the high-quality aesthetic and attention to detail in the product. With an extensive field of participants of 6,375 entries from 52 countries and only 66 IF Gold Award winners, it was a special moment for the entire Urban Iki team. In the Netherlands, this team grew from 2 to 6 people in 2018 and in Japan a professional team is responsible for production at 2 production sites in Osaka.

Successful collaboration Idenova Industrial Design

Managing Director at Urban Iki, Ronald Scheppink, said: “Winning an award is preceded by a great deal. Developing a new product and brand from the ground-up is a huge process. A process that starts with finding the right partners to achieve this result. As a client, OGK in Japan gave me the confidence to do this project. I had already worked successfully with Idenova and Eric Kruisselbrink on previous projects. In a design partner you look at a party that can translate the ideas for design and the positioning strategy that you have outlined in your team, into a design that fits in with that. But even more, they can also enrich this from their expertise. Idenova is characterized by a good sense of design and refinement, combined with exceptional technical expertise. Designing a beautiful, distinctive product is one thing, but it must above all be functional and easy to produce. We have certainly succeeded in this collaboration. After a sparkling introduction in 2017, we are experiencing healthy growth nationally and internationally.”

Famous points also essential for consumers

The jury at the grand award ceremony praised in particular the matt finish, the stylish pastel colors, an eye for detail and the ease of use of the Urban Iki bicycle seats. Ronald Scheppink went on to say: “This is in line with what we get back from consumers. We have just had a very successful edition of the Nine Month Fair in Amsterdam. Almost 60.000 visitors pass by in five days. We talked to young parents (to be) and they give honest feedback. It is a target group that is very interested in the product and makes careful decisions. We know how to win the consumer for Urban Iki in terms of quality, ease of use, design and, finally, the affordable price tag. Without the consumer embracing your brand and product you are nowhere, and you do not win a great award like the iF Gold Award”.
