US Brand Pearl Izumi uses a Minerale polyester in its Pro Transfer fabric, which is produced from adding crushed-up volcanic rock to the synthetic vat, which gives the fabric an improved porous structure. The idea is that it increases the surface area and helps lift moisture away from the skin. In practice, it works very well, and offers good breathability. Its medium weight makes it good for cold winter days, and a tall collar and 20cm zip adds versatility; it's closer to a long-sleeved jersey in many ways. The fit is comfortable without being restrictive, and the fabric left us feeling reasonably dry after rides, though noticeably damper than the Altura.
